Leora Raikin

Founder and Executive Director of David Labkovski Project

Leora Raikin is an international speaker who captivates and engages audiences throughout the world through the art of David Labkovski (1906-1991). As a keynote speaker, scholar in residence, and guest artist, she has lectured to thousands of people throughout the U.S., Europe, South Africa and Mexico.

Leora serves as Corporate Speaker on the Holocaust and antisemitism for Uniworld and the Capital Group.

In addition Leora curates and lectures on three traveling exhibits:

DLP’s Scholar in Residence Program partners you with one of our Holocaust Scholars or Speakers to bring awareness to organizations, temples, and corporate retreats.

Our Scholars combine art and Holocaust awareness through group speaking, art exercises, and reflection on David Labkovski’s art.

Self-Portraiture for Recovery: A Gallery Teaching with the Artwork of David Labkovski

In this program, the lens used to explore David Labkovski’s artwork diverges from the programmatic norm, but still recognizes the value of art to explore the complexities of depicting both personal narrative and historical context along with exploring themes of recovery, isolation, despair, resilience and hope.

By exploring Labkovksi’s work, specifically his self-portraiture, the art can be used to encourage self analysis, to express empathy, and to “dig deep” into the individual’s own psyche to use in their recovery.

“The art transcends time. It was specific to a specific time period, and yet here we are all these years later still able to relate. I can still relate to the pain expressed and the hopelessness and suffering conveyed. My experience was different, but it reminds me of my journey in recovery. Not focusing on the differences, but on the similarities, because pain is pain..."

"Looking at these paintings allowed me to take an introspective look at some of my trauma and look at it in a way that will help me to process it better...My goal coming here to Beit T’Shuvah was to finally unpack that trauma and the art encourages the unpacking part of the journey.”

Adult Workshops

David Labkovski Project holds creative events where groups can paint, write, or discuss David Labkovski’s artwork after reflection. Workshops are held by DLP staff.

Painting & Poetry Night

Host a night for guests to get creative while they learn about the Holocaust.

Attendees will learn how to curate their own exhibit using David Labkovski's artwork.
