Viewpoint School observed the International United Nations Holocaust Commemoration Day with lectures and workshops illustrating the consequences of hate that resulted in the Holocaust for faculty and students from grades 5 through 12 by Leora Raikin, Founder & Executive Director of the David Labkovski Project, along with Holocaust survivor Dr. Erica Miller.
Three assemblies were held, tailored to fit each age group and audience and spotlighting the adaptability of DLPs programs.
The high school program focused on the life story of David Labkovski and atrocities of the Holocaust and included audience participation, concluding with the presentation of an award to 12th grade student Nia Blumenfield for her involvement with DLP and to Viewpoint School for their commitment to Holocaust education.
Middle school students were excited to participate in and contribute to meaningful discussions about the artwork, and the reactions and emotions they sparked.
Fifth graders eagerly shared observations about “what they see, what they think, and what questions they would like to ask.” Their responses were incredibly insightful, impressing Viewpoint staff, faculty, and DLP staff with their level of analysis and understanding of the topic.
DLP is very grateful to Monica Borochoff, DLP advisory board member, and Fiona Wong, Viewpoint School Student Association (VSSA) co-chair of parent education, for spearheading these programs. DLP also extends a BIG thank you to the administration of Viewpoint School, including Mark McKee, Robert Bryan, Alan Howie, and Patrician Jackson for their commitment to and support of David Labkovski Project’s approach to Holocaust education.
